Updated version of my front cover. I've added another story to fill out the space at the bottom. I have also moved the date/issue number and the price around to the barcode because conventionally this is where they are loacated. I was also going to add a QR code to the bottom of the page but I am going to add it to the contents page instead.

Front Cover 2nd Draft.2
Updated version of my front cover. I've added another story to fill out the space at the bottom. I was also going to add a QR code to the bottom of the page but I am going to add it to the contents page instead.
Front Cover Second Draft
This is the 2nd draft of my front cover:
I have made quite a few changes to my front cover so far. Having talked to Tim he pointed out a few things that need changing such as the amount of sell lines that I have on there. Before I only had two, now I have three and am planning to have at least one more in my next update. I have also changed my footer into a header/skyline; I feel as though this suits the magazine a lot more than a footer, this made the space available at the bottom for the main headline of the interview with the main image artist.
The font has for 'Anthem' but that will be changed for the final edit as I was working on a PC and the font I wanted was downloaded onto a MAC.

1st Draft of Front Cover
First draft of my front cover.
I feel that it needs another story though to fill the space under the sell line 'Nickelback Reveal new tour dates'.
Progression of Front cover on Photoshop
This is my starting image for the front cover:
I have now progressed onto deleting the background and cutting the model out:
I have created a new A4 blank piece of paper for the front cover:
Placing the cut out image onto the blank piece of paper:
Different sizes of the images on the front cover:
This scaled image is the original size from when I placed it on the blank piece of A4. I have just moved it around to make it more of a closer medium close up.
This scaling there is more room for the title to fit in at the top but the sell-lines might go over her face.
I have moved the image more to the right in order to fit the sell-lines in.
Adding the Masthead:
I have typed in the masthead on the font style CF Anarchy, font colour black and a dark red.
In this image the masthead is behind her head.
I have moved the main image down a little and to the right. This way you can make out that it says Anthem.
Adding The Barcode:
A found Image from http://verus-ar.com/wp-content/uploads/Upc_Bar_code.jpg
Date and Issue Number:
Adding the date and the issue number using the font
I decided to have the date and the issue number on the right hand side under the masthead so I can fit a tagline on.
Issue 28
December 2013, making it a monthly magazine.
Adding the footer:
This footer block is in red. I am going to try it in black next.
This is the footer in black. I feel that the red stands out more so i am going to use the red.
Adding a story/sell line to the graphic:
The story is about winning tickets to see rock band Green Day on their 2014 tour.
Adding the Price:
The price has been added under the Issue number and date.
Adding the sell lines:
BUZZ WORD: EXCLUSIVE
The word exclusive
ANOTHER BUZZ WORD: FREE.
Free is a good word to use, it catches the eye of the audience. I have added 10 free posters of Melony Spikes (the main image model). I believe that Melony Spikes sounds like a rock star name.
Another sell line. An interview with Brian May about Freddie Mercury 's dark side when recording music and on public appearances.
This is my first draft and I feel that I should have swapped the two left hand stories around.
After The stories have been swapped:

Masthead Resized and Date/Issue number moved to top left:

Photoshoot Images and Images I didn't use for the front cover
These are the images that I took for my front cover (some I could use in the double page spread/contents page). It is a female model. I decided that the model should wear a black top because that is a colour that is associated with the genre rock; it is also associated with powerlessness, and as I stated in an earlier post I want the reader to feel that if they read the magazine then they can feel powerful by being associated with rock.
The make up is very simple yet effective, she is wearing simple foundation with thick black eyeliner and fake eyelashes to really bring out her eyes. But what I like about the make up is the lip design, it is very alternate and different; she has one half of her top lip covered and the opposite side on her bottom lip covered as well emphasised by the black outline.
This is one of my favorite images. There is a clear view of her facial expressions and her make up. She is also using direct mode of address, which is what I want. I think that this is the image that I will use for my front cover.

This image is another one of my favorites. It is nearly the same as the top image but with just a little more facial expressions.
On this image I tried to get shallow depth of field; where her fingers would be ion focus and her face slightly out of focus. But obviously it didn't work.
I really like this picture. The model is showing direct mode of address involving the audience. I also like the headphones in this picture showing that the article is about music. Headphones are a piece of iconography of music. If I crop this image down and maybe put a filter on it I will use it for my double page spread. I wouldn't use this for my front cover because the model looks too far away, unlike the first image using quite a bigger medium close up.

Cast and costume for the front cover
The costume that I am going to use is rather simple, all I want is the model to wear a black top with a pattern and the hair to be tied up slightly and down, this gives it a more formal feel to it but with the hair down it is still formal.
Make up:
The eyelashes are going to be thick black and big bringing emphasis to the eyes and making them look rather non naturalistic. I feel that the look of non naturalism with the make up gives the magazine cover an alternative and rocky edge, fitting the genre of rock.

Different colours for Masthead (CF Anarchy)
The decided that the font style for my masthead would be CF Anarchy because not only is it very bold and it stands out; it looks as though it would be on the front cover of a rock magazine. It is jagged and it looks almost like it has been stamped on the page.
Audience feedback - When I was typing out the fonts I asked Natasha what she thought looked the best and she said this font (CF Anarchy) because it really stood out above the rest of the fonts.

I narrowed it down to my top three music magazine names.
I went on a random name generator website to create a few fake band names for my magazine.
